Another week closer to opening and more items from India are getting prepared to go on display this year. Some of the more we'll know religious items that are on permanent display pictured here. Both figurines of the god  Ganesh, one one in the Hindu pantheon of gods. On the left a bronze figurine while on the right one carved from marble!

A drawer showing a selection of butterflies and moths from the Museums large collection. Britain has a large selection of different species that can be found but sadly last years Big Butterfly count showed a decrease of sightings of up to 47% on some of Britain most commonly seen species! Specimen like this can and are being used for research around the world to monitor changes in population and variation in a scheme to protect these wonderful creatures!

William John Macquorn Rankine, FRSE FRS (5 July 1820 – 24 December 1872) was a Scottish mechanical engineer who also contributed to civil engineering, physics and mathematics. He was a founding contributor, with Rudolf Clausius and William Thomson (Lord Kelvin), to the science of thermodynamics, particularly focusing on the first of the three thermodynamic laws.
One of the many Scottish engineers and scientists that have changed the world!

2 of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Members  reading a book Based on the story "Soon"  by Timothy Knapman, about a baby elephant & its mother going on a journey & meeting different animals along the way. The animals were represented by different instruments - trombone for elephant etc. SCO read and performed story first, then families got the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument, then took part in second performance of story. 
Children sat spell-bound through the whole event.
