2.1 billion people live without safe #water at home 🚰 and by 2030, 700 million people worldwide could be #displaced by intense water scarcity.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Access to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation is a #humanright recognized by the @unitednations in 2010. We must leave no one behind and ensure that water services meet everyone's needs, especially marginalised and vulnerable people - women, children, refugees, indigenous peoples, disabled people and many others. Their voices must be heard in decision-making processes and regulatory and legal frameworks must recognise the right to water for all people.

Reasons to ❤️ forests:
- 1.6 billion people use forests for their livelihoods
- Millions more, including people in cities, depend on forest resources for clean air and fresh water
- Forests can deliver up to 30% of the climate solution
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Despite their critical importance, #forests continue to be razed and damaged. The 🌎 loses a tropical forest area about the size of 40 football fields every minute. Let’s restore damaged forests and plant more 🌳🌳🌳.

Like in many parts of the #Sahel, the Mauritania-Mali border is invisible, and Mauritanians and Malians are linked by family ties, religion and trade. Since the start of the conflict in #Mali 🇲🇱 in 2011, over 50,000 Malians live in a #refugee camp about 20 kilometres from Bassikounou, a district in Southeastern #Mauritania 🇲🇷.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As the population in the district has effectively doubled, the increased pressure on natural resources and social services can lead to conflicts between refugees and hosts. And while tensions do exist in #Bassikounou, the mediation by village elders, shared religious values and a century-old culture of hospitality make peace prevail.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Several #UN agencies, including UNDP, developed different approaches to ensure that tensions won't escalate: supporting a joint plan to manage scarce natural resources, enabling district authorities to encourage local economic development, and supporting young people, particularly women, to become #peace agents and leaders.

Women produce 70% of Africa's food but own less than 20% of the land. Why? Customary laws that grant inheritance only to a husband or male relative. But it's often the women who manage the gardens and process the crops to earn money and feed their families.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Women have the same rights as men to inherit land and property in only 42% of countries worldwide. Without the right to land, she is unable to take sustainable actions to protect the water sources and forests around her land from the impact of climate change.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This week, we're heading to #AfricaClimateWeek to discuss challenges that prevent #ClimateAction.

“It’s important for me. Most of our people think that these cases are shameful for victims. They believe that this kind of things happen because of the behaviour of the victims, like not wearing suitable clothing or having a flirty personality.” Khine Lwin Myint (left) and Aung Myo Lwin (right) are developing a ground-breaking 📲 to help survivors of rape & violence in #Myanmar. Their app will be a first in 🇲🇲 #Myanmar where📱 social media is sparking conversations about #WomensRights, stereotypes about good girls vs. bad girls in Myanmar culture, consent, sexual harassment, discrimination, jezebel-shaming, and bullying.

Climate change is a women's rights issue.

The richest 1% of the world's population own 33% of the wealth. Meanwhile, less than 5% of the largest companies’ boards are women, and for every dollar that men earn on average, women earn about 80 cents.
Women hold up half the sky but in many parts of the 🌎 🌍 🌏, they are not part of decisions about laws and policies that affect their ability to provide for themselves and their families.
What creative ideas have you seen in your community that help women? Whether it’s closing the digital divide, 🤖 chatbots for understanding laws better, or mobile📱 health services, innovations can ignite social change! ©UNDP Bhutan

photo_library Amir, now 11, has spent most of his life in Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan. Today, the Syrian war enters its ninth year. Much of the world's Syrian refugees are in Turkey 🇹🇷, Jordan 🇯🇴 and Lebanon 🇱🇧. 2.5 million children under the age of 18 are nearly half of this population. Amir's family fled Daraa, Syria for the safety of Jordan in March 2013. They believed they would only need to stay for two months at most, thinking the war would end soon. It has been six years and the camp has swelled and shrunk. 78,597 refugees now live in Zaatari camp.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We work with the host governments and communities to assist refugees and local community members. Our emergency jobs and start-up support offer locals and refugees the tools and financial means to build the infrastructure, businesses, and vital services they need to build peace and resilience.
